Consistently Good Work Is Key

If you have any hope at growing any type of business, social media, or newsletter, you need to be at the top of your game.

What does that mean?

Nothing gets done without exceptional work or doing that exceptional work consistently.

Here are some tips to help achieve this:

  1. Set Clear Goals: Make sure to define clear, attainable (key word) objectives to guide your work flow and keep you focused.

  2. Create a routine: Think about what you are going to do before you do it. Never start a job without understanding the process in which it will get done. Then at that point, make it repeatable.

  3. Continuous learning: Keep your mind moldable. Always be willing to get better at your craft. Learn new skills to improve performance and productivity overtime.

The decision between choosing your home building business or someone else’s always comes down to how dependable and consistent you are.

Systems Create Routines. Routines Create Productivity.

If you want to create routine in your home building projects, you are going to need a system.

Systems create a routine that is repeatable and productive. Without a system, each and every project you start will require work that could have been avoided.

3 systems you should always have:

  • Budget Planning: Realistic budgets should be considered before every project. They need to include materials, labor, permits, and contingencies.

  • A Reliable Team: This includes not only your employees, but architects, subcontractors, or other builders, to ensure good quality and workmanship.

  • Document Everything: Keeping record of all changes, purchases, contracts, permits, and correspondences. This helps to resolve communication issues, tracking changes and ensuring accountability.

Even when you have systems set in place you still need to be able to adapt to things that will interfere with the established plan. Stay flexible and be prepared to adjust plans as needed.

The Most Important Tool… Scheduling

Every project has meetings, deadlines, or promises you need to uphold.

That’s where this stupid-simple tool comes in…

The Calendar

Every phone has one. Everyone should be using it.

Once something is established for a certain date, like material drop-off, meeting set ups, and deadlines, write it down in your calendar.

Stay on top of your schedule, don’t fall behind and become unreliable, inconsistent, and untrustworthy.
