Building Better Habits

3 Changes You Need To Make

Building better habits is something we all strive for. Specifically in home building it’s impossible to succeed without good habits.

Today I’m going to teach you 3 habits that will improve your chances of being a better builder.

Let’s Dive In 🤿

Habit 1: Tracking progress

Every step of construction is important but the most important of the steps is managing the job. Making sure things are in working order.

If you are a scrambled contractor you will ultimately fail. Keeping your head straight, watching out for mistakes, and planning out each and every step of a project is vital.

Once you are finished with one step, mark it off and move onto the next. It keeps things flowing and makes sure things get done on time and on budget.

Habit 2: Constant Communication

Whether it be with your sub-contractors, clients, or with your team, communicating is the only way to effectively get things done. Keeping everyone on the same page will in return give you an outcome you expected.

Checking in with those who are involved in the project will help create expectations for the work you want done and keep everyone in line with what they need to be doing.

My advice is sit back, write down a few points you wish to speak about and make sure you come across clear and concise.

I wrote a newsletter about effective meetings. You can check that out here.

Habit 3: Saying no

Not every request can be fulfilled. Some wants are just unrealistic and that is a boundary to create and get good at creating.

If you don’t, you will be stretched thin, get irritated that you are doing something you wish you didn’t have to do, and often make matters worse by doing work you aren’t proud of.

You are the boss, not the client, not your employees. If you so choose to not do what is requested, communicate why and be ok with maybe letting them down. If it’s not wise for you or realistic for the plans you have made, there is zero harm in saying no.

It’s a powerful word that should be used well. Don’t just say no because you can. Say no because you have something better in mind.

I also wrote a newsletter on doing good work! check it out here.
